Singing Story, Healing Drum

Shamans and Storytellers of Turkic Siberia

Kira Van Deusen

McGill-Queen's University Press

The petroglyph of a shaman with a drum – which the author found during her travels in Siberia – was used on the cover and repeated on the title and chapter opening pages. A photograph of a shaman's costume inspired the colour scheme and abstract border of the cover. The cover design echoes the type treatment used on the title page.

The display face is Herculanum, while the text is set in 10.5/13 x 25p6 Bembo. The trim is 6 x 9 inches and the length is 232 pages.
