The Ahmadis

Community, Gender, and Politics in a Muslim Society

Antonio Gualtieri

McGill-Queen's University Press

A slightly smaller trim of 6 x 8½ inches was chosen for this investigation of the tension between tradition and modernity in the conservative Ahmadi sect. An Arabic flavour is provided by display type set in Linotype Pide Nashe One on the title and part title pages. The author’s personal reminiscences of his research trip to Pakistan are set in FF Meta+ with a decorative Pide Nashe One initial cap to distinguish them from the primary scholarly text, which is set in 10.5/14 x 25p6 Adobe Caslon. The three photographs on the title page spread allude to the three topics explored in the narrative. A selection of the author’s photographs of the Ahmadi community have been grouped at the beginning of each part and set two or three to a page to mitigate their varying quality. The length is 208 pages.
